Jessica Funderburk

High School Humanities Teacher

Email

I started at CCA when I was in second grade, and I graduated in 2016. In 2019, I received my Bachelor's in English and History from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!), and in May 2022, I earned my Masters in Humanities from the University of Dallas. I also have my Standard Texas Teaching Certification in History, grades 7-12, as well as the TEA's Certification in Dyslexia Strategies. Before coming to CCA, I was a SAT Verbal teacher at KD College Prep. I started working at CCA as the high school CASP teacher in 2020 and moved into my current role as the 10th grade English and History teacher in 2021.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a teacher at Covenant!

Why do you choose to work at CCA? My teachers were heavily involved in my life during my time at CCA. I knew they were for me and would do whatever they could to help me succeed, not only in school but in my spiritual walk as well. It was in 10th grade that I realized I wanted to come back and support future generations in the same way I was.

What is one fun fact about you? I love dinosaurs! My classroom is decorated with dinos, and my sweet husband let me have a dinosaur-themed wedding.

What is your favorite book of all time? The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien - It taught me so much about the fundamental elements of what makes us human: things like faith, friendship, and loyalty. Everyone should read it at least once, and while the movies are pretty fantastic (the extended edition is the way to go), the book is much better.

What is one thing that can instantly make your day better? My husband! He's very goofy and knows exactly what to do to make me feel better. But, if he's not around, gummy bears.

What do you like to do for fun? You can usually find me either watching crime shows or reading crime novels. If I couldn't be a teacher, I would be a decent detective.
