Covenant Academic Support Program (CASP)

What is the Covenant Academic Support Program (CASP)?

The Covenant Academic Support Program (CASP) reflects our belief that every student is intentionally created by God, bears His image, and possesses unique gifts, strengths, areas for growth, and invites them into the richness of beauty, truth, and goodness.

At CCA, we believe a learning difference should not prevent a student from participating in a rigorous and beautiful classical education. While CCA does not provide Special Education services or curriculum modifications, we offer thoughtful accommodations and academic support for students with a diagnosed learning difference to help students access the curriculum, develop effective learning habits, and become increasingly confident and self-aware learners.

Student Accommodation Plans (SAP) may include:

Our Approach

Our approach seeks to preserve the integrity and high expectations of the classical curriculum while equipping students with the tools they need to succeed within it. We want each student to recognize their unique gifts, understand how they learn best, and grow in the confidence and skills necessary to pursue learning with purpose. This support can include development of executive-functioning skills such as organization, planning, time management, study strategies, assistance with managing assignments, reinforcement of key academic concepts, and instruction designed to strengthen specific areas of need.

Our Commitment

At CCA, we recognize that students learn in different ways and that some may experience learning differences or other challenges that require additional support to access instruction and demonstrate understanding. CASP is committed to creating an environment where students with learning differences are known, supported, challenged, and encouraged to flourish.

Ultimately, CASP seeks to know and support each student as an individual, helping students recognize and steward the gifts God has given them while growing in confidence, perseverance, responsibility, and independence.

“Since enrolling our son in CASP, we have seen significant growth in his grades, study habits, eagerness to learn, and, most importantly, his confidence. He has learned to advocate for himself when he needs help and genuinely looks forward to the additional support he receives. The CASP teachers deeply care about him and want to see him succeed. Having this level of support within the school has been such a blessing to our family.”

Frequently Asked Questions

At CCA, we believe students flourish when they are known, supported, and encouraged to grow. Each division provides developmentally appropriate academic support designed to meet students where they are and equip them for where they are going.

In the Grammar (Elementary) Stage, we emphasize early identification and support of learning challenges, helping students build strong academic foundations and confidence as learners. In the Logic (Middle School) Stage, students receive continued academic support alongside intentional development of executive skills such as organization, planning, study habits, and self-advocacy. In the Rhetoric Stage (High School), this support continues with an increasing emphasis on independence, helping students take ownership of their learning and develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive within a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.

Our goal is not simply to help students succeed today, but to equip them to become confident, capable, and increasingly independent learners who are prepared to pursue their gifts and flourish.

While a diagnostician may recommend a range of accommodations, CCA carefully considers which accommodations align with our classical curriculum, academic standards, and educational mission. Our goal is to provide meaningful support that helps students access the curriculum while preserving the integrity and expectations of the CCA educational experience.

Depending upon the educational need, support may include:

  • Alternate testing environments
  • 50% extended time on tests
  • Preferential seating
  • Access to teacher notes
  • Dedicated tutorial time for note-taking, study skills, and test preparation
  • Organization and planning strategies
  • Self-advocacy skills
  • Progress monitoring
  • Assistance with applying for accommodations for standardized testing

A current psychoeducational evaluation completed by a licensed professional within the past three years is required. The evaluation should clearly identify the specific diagnosis, recommended accommodations, and the relevant battery of educational and psychological assessments used to determine the student’s learning needs.

If you would like to explore academic support options for your student or begin the application process, please contact our CASP Director, Mrs. Kelly Whisenhunt, at kelly.whisenhunt@covenantchristian.net to learn more about the program and next steps.

For students with documented learning differences, CASP may develop a Student Accommodation Plan (SAP) informed by a current educational evaluation, relevant school based data, and the student’s demonstrated needs within the classroom. CASP staff collaborate with classroom teachers to help ensure that approved accommodations are understood and implemented consistently while maintaining the essential learning objectives and academic expectations of CCA’s program.

Psalm 139:14

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made, wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

Please note: Covenant Christian Academy‘s policies and expectations are in alignment with ACT and College Board expectations to give students the best chance of receiving accommodations on standardized tests. Approval to receive accommodations at Covenant does NOT guarantee students will receive accommodations on the ACT, SAT, PSAT, or AP exams.
