A Season of Grit, Grace, and Glory: Our Varsity Cheer Team Wins the TAPPS 2025 State Championship

Championship moments are never made in a single day. They are forged over months of unseen work, countless repetitions, and quiet decisions to keep going when quitting would be easier. This season, our Varsity Cheer team lived that truth in the most powerful way—and on the state mat, their perseverance was rewarded as they were crowned TAPPS 2025 State Champions.

The journey began long before the competition floor. In August, while most of us were settling into the rhythm of a new school year, these girls were learning choreography—first a stripped-down version of the routine that would become increasingly complex and demanding as the fall progressed. Every week brought higher difficulty, sharper timing, stronger stunts, and greater expectations.

All of this happened while the team faithfully fulfilled their sideline responsibilities: cheering under Friday night lights, energizing pep rallies, and representing our school with excellence at every football game. From August through December, their commitment required daily practices—often spilling into weekends and even holidays. It was a season marked by sacrifice, discipline, and determination.

As it always does, the process shaped more than just a routine. Along the way, the girls learned about themselves and about one another. They pushed their bodies beyond what they believed they were capable of. They grew in trust, friendship, and unity. They learned how much stronger they were together than alone.

Then, in early November, the season took a heartbreaking turn. The team lost a key member of the squad to injury. With no alternates, this kind of loss can be devastating—emotionally and competitively. The momentum shifts. The margins shrink. And the sadness of watching a teammate lose the opportunity to use months of hard work weighs heavily on everyone.

But this is where the story took on its truest shape.

Rather than folding under the pressure, the girls rallied. They reworked the routine. They adjusted roles. They did the hard, last-minute work required to keep moving forward. In the midst of that challenge, we were incredibly blessed by Kate Fox, who selflessly volunteered her time to help minimize the impact of the loss. Her willingness to serve in this way was a gift to the team, and we are profoundly grateful for her generosity.

This season also marked the first year with Casey Baker serving as our competition coach. While she is currently one of our junior high coaches, Casey has been a part of our cheer program for more than seven years, coaching at multiple levels. She is deeply loved by the girls, exceptionally talented, and brought invaluable leadership to this season. Her love for the sport, her wisdom, and—most importantly—her genuine care for each athlete helped draw out the very best in this team.

Watching these girls fight through adversity and deliver a clean, beautiful routine on the state mat was pure joy. They didn’t just meet the challenge—they exceeded it. They increased their skills, trusted the process, and accomplished more than they imagined possible. To see their hard work honored with a state championship was a gift to everyone who walked alongside them.

Beyond the trophy, this season taught lessons that will last far longer than any medal. The girls learned what hard work truly looks like, and what it feels like to choose difficult over easy. It means to persevere together through both success and failure. They learned to love one another more deeply as they strove toward a common goal. And they learned what it looks like to trust the gifts God has given them—and to do the faithful work of using those gifts for His glory.

We are so proud of this team—not just for what they achieved, but for who they became along the way. Congratulations to our TAPPS 2025 State Champion Varsity Cheer Team. Your season was one of grit, grace, and glory.
