Leadership with Heart: Get To Know Our New Head of School

It has been a joy to join the Covenant Christian Academy Community. I was drawn to the mission and vision. I felt the Lord’s calling the moment I stepped on campus and had the chance to interact with some of CCA’s outstanding faculty.
Dr. Becca Thomas
With great excitement and open arms, we welcome our new Head of School, Dr. Becca Thomas. She brings both heart and vision to our school family. Since she landed at CCA on April 1st, she has been working diligently to learn more about the amazing people who make this school special. From the smallest three-year-old to the most seasoned teacher, she is truly investing time to get to know the heart and soul of our community.
Becca brings a genuine heart for building connections within our community, a passion for education, and the experience of a seasoned leader. She holds a Doctorate of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, a Master of Arts (MA) in Mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Secondary Education with concentrations in Mathematics and Physics from Concordia University.
Becca’s professional journey began at a large, private Christian high school in Orange County, CA, where she taught a range of mathematics courses and served as a professional learning community facilitator. Recognizing a need to better support incoming students, she also implemented a peer mentoring program, fostering meaningful support and connection for new students. During her time there, she was recognized with the Outstanding Christian Educator Award.

In 2007, Becca joined the founding faculty of Valor Christian High School in Colorado. Over the years, she was honored to serve in a variety of leadership roles, including Math Department Chair, Academic Dean, Director of Academics, and Associate Head of School. The school experienced remarkable growth, expanding from 188 students in its inaugural year to approximately 1,150 students by the time of her departure. During her tenure, Valor received two National Blue Ribbon School awards and earned ACSI Exemplary Accreditation. She was humbled to be recognized with both the Excellence in Character Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award for my contributions to the school community.
Want to know more about Becca? Her answers to the following questions offer a great glimpse into who she is.
What was your first job?
I did a lot of babysitting before I could even drive. My very first babysitting job was for my 3rd grade teacher, who played an important role in my future career path.
What is your favorite way to spend a weekend?
I am married to Sam, who owns an information technology consulting firm specializing in school services. We enjoy outdoor adventures with our spoiled Goldendoodle, Charlie. I also love to read, watch a good sports competition, play the piano, and compete in a card game or other game of strategy.

Why did you choose education as a career?
I had a very special 3rd grade teacher who greatly influenced my decision to become a teacher. I thought that I wanted to teach history until I got to high school, when I learned from two phenomenal teachers in physics and mathematics. These teachers encouraged and deeply influenced my calling to Christian education.
What’s the career highlight you’re most proud of?
A significant career highlight has been the privilege of leading groups of students on mission trips to South Africa and Rwanda. These experiences provided a powerful opportunity to live out the Great Commission alongside enthusiastic high school students, striving to serve with Christ-like love. I witnessed a transformation in students through their service to others. Students shared the Gospel directly and lives were changed. What a joy it is to see the next generation impacting others!
What is the one thing you wish students knew?
In our broken world, I long for students to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, anchoring their identity in Him and pursuing Him with boldness and grace.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Even after two decades of educational experience, the students are my enduring “why”. I cherish watching their immediate learning and development, but the profound impact is often revealed years later when they emerge as adults, active citizens, and influential leaders. These lasting relationships underscore the special nature of being an educator- witnessing the seeds sown blossom over time.
What is your definition of success?
I pray those who know and interact with me will witness my unwavering passion for Jesus Christ. Despite my daily shortcomings, my hunger to learn and represent Jesus continues to drive me forward. I firmly believe God will utilize my leadership in Christian education if I first submit myself to Him. I am deeply convicted about the opportunity we have within Christian schools to love and support the next generation and ultimately live out the Great Commission.

By creating an environment where God’s Word permeates all aspects, students can truly grasp the truth of Scripture and cultivate a sense of purpose that empowers them to lead Christ-centered lives. As Christian educators, we have the privelege of demonstrating God’s love and redemptive work in the lives of His children. From the gym to the classroom, from the stage to the athletic field, with the community, and at home, it is vital to beckon our students, parents, faculty, and staff to an unwavering and diligent pursuit of Truth. Our pursuit of excellence in both academic and co-curriclular endeavors must be explicit and uncompromising.
