Chemistry and Math Teacher

Email

I grew up in Hebron, Kentucky, and moved with my family to Texas in 2017. I earned my Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Baylor University (sic 'em bears!). This is my second year at CCA teaching chemistry and mathematics. When I am not at CCA, I often play sand volleyball or cheer on Baylor athletics with my friends. I also love to try new restaurants with my family and play with our yellow Labrador retriever- Boone, named after my home county in Kentucky.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a fire girl (firefighter) or a "beauty shop girl"!

Why do you choose to work at CCA? While studying at Baylor, I tutored large groups of pre-calculus students for the university's supplemental instruction program. I grew a passion for teaching and forming lasting relationships with my attendees. As I neared graduation, I looked for opportunities to teach. I was hoping to find a position in the DFW area where I would be close to my family. I had no connections to CCA but chose to apply from a job posting. I felt so at home during my tour at CCA because of the students, teachers, and administration that reached out to me. After doing a teaching demonstration, one student stopped to ask me if I would be teaching at CCA next year. At that moment, I knew that if I were offered a position, I would be taking it! Since then, God has affirmed my decision to be at CCA- I love the work I do here!

What is one fun fact about you? I love musical theatre! While at Baylor, I participated in Baylor All University Sing, a program where thousands of students put together Broadway-style performances for the campus and community to watch. My act was World War II/Victory Day themed, so I performed as part of the "Rosie the Riveter" group. It was one of my favorite memories from college! I love that many of my students at CCA are involved in the arts. I saw last year's high school production of Hello My Baby, and I look forward to seeing this year's musical!

What is your favorite book of all time? Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
While I have trouble choosing favorites, I return to reading Anne of Green Gables often. Like Anne, I find myself to be stubborn and over-imaginative. However, while Anne has her faults (impulsivity, mischievousness, need I go on?), she has a big heart. She finds a home in the people around her, which is why the book makes for such a comforting read. If you are also a kindred spirit, ask me about Anne of Green Gables!

What is one thing that can instantly make your day better? I love to keep flowers on my desk to brighten up my classroom. My favorites are carnations, tulips, snapdragons, and hyacinths. But, of course, I'm also instantly happier after having some chocolate!

What do you like to do for fun? I love to bake! I can listen to music on my record player and stay in the kitchen for hours. Afterward, I share my yummy creations with friends while watching movies and playing board games (two other things I like to do for fun!). If my coworkers are lucky, I may even bring the extras to CCA for them!
