What CCA Means to the Kechichian Family

Posted by Viken and Eliz Kechichian on Feb 26, 2021 9:15:00 AM

There is an adage that states “it takes a village to raise a kid.” Well, for us, CCA became that village and community. With a culture of honor exercised by every personnel, each student is encouraged to bloom into their own identity in a safe, creative, and healthy environment.

why my family loves cca-2

It all began a year ago with a mother’s deep cry for the Lord to make a way for our three beautiful daughters to attend a school where they would thrive spiritually, academically, and socially. Although they had always attended private schools with high academic curriculum, their spirits and personalities were being drowned by the suppression of the Christian faith. They were at the top of their classes, however morally and socially, they were deteriorating every day. It broke my heart to hear all they had to go through at such a young age. We lived in Quebec, Canada. I love Quebec; however, the grace of God is resisted, and the lack of it is evident in the conduct of the personnel and the students. During my fasts and prayers, I reminded Jesus that these precious children were His before He entrusted them to me, and we were trying our best; however, there was only so much we could do. They were being shaped in a secular atmosphere for 9 hours a day!

I made my plea for Jesus to make a way and a WAY He did! Jesus answered our prayers by handpicking CCA in Texas! Texas seemed impossible. Being a Canadian, during one of the biggest pandemics that has ever hit the earth, high unemployment rates, and the borders being closed, one would agree that it would take a miracle. BUT GOD, who is in the business of the impossible, made it happen!! (That testimony is for another time;)

How did we hear about CCA, one would ask? Our friends had their children at CCA and said how amazing it was. I started praying and asking the Lord if that is where He wanted my children to attend. Mind you, as mentioned previously, this was impossible for myriads of reasons, but 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “We walk by faith and not by sight.

my school is home to me

I started filling out the admission applications. On the day of our admission testing, Mrs. Lackey, a 4th-grade teacher, welcomed my eldest daughter and me via Zoom with a warm smile. She said, “Do you mind if I pray before she begins her exam?" I was crying the whole time because I couldn’t fathom the idea that school and prayer could coexist! Even though all the content was in English, my daughter’s 3rd language, she tried her best. When Mrs. Lackey saw that my daughter was nervous, she stopped her and told her the following “In our Bible class, we learned the word fortitude, and I see you demonstrating that this morning….” She continued for another five minutes to encourage and build her up. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was silently praying and saying, "Lord, do these kinds of schools exist?? If so, PLEASE make a way."  After finishing the exam, Mrs. Lackey kept in touch with me, praying with us and for our transition. She even scheduled a zoom play date with her daughter and my youngest daughter so that if  we were accepted, my daughter would see a friendly face on her first day! THIS IS the heart of CCA.

what my school means to me

Our  journey didn’t end there. My husband and I had to pass an interview as well, and that’s when we met the Director of Admissions, Mr. Steve Turner. The love and kindness that exuded from him made us so comfortable. It felt like we were talking to a long-time friend. The whole staff Mrs. Joy Hale, Mrs. Julie Bullington, and Mrs. Brook Backholm were so helpful and informative that the entire transition was effortless and extremely smooth.

schools partnering with parentsSo now, fast forward five months, and my daughters are thriving in spirit, soul, and body as it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Not only did Jesus handpick CCA, but He also handpicked each teacher according to my child’s temperament. Mrs. Lackey’s gentleness and brilliant mind are feeding my daughter's studiousness. Mrs. Phillips’s unwavering faith and strength are developing boldness and fearlessness. Mrs. Niemeyer’s joyfulness and tenderness are helping my child read and write. The gold these teachers are sowing into my children will help them navigate the future.

Thank you, Jesus, for making the impossible happen and planting my children into this rich soil called: Covenant Christian Academy.

CCA is a village that is partnering with me to raise the next generations of leaders.
