Science

From the Science Department Head

This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being. This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all.
Sir Isaac Newton

Science is the study of God’s creation and His creation can only be properly understood by examining it through the lens of Scripture (Hebrews 11:3).  By studying science as God’s creation, students learn to see God’s power, the beauty of His creation, and the complexity reflective of design in that creation.

The primary purpose of the CCAGrammar School and EarlyLogicSchool, grades 1-6, science curriculum is to provide students with the opportunity to learn more about God through the study of His creation.  Students read about science, write about science, and experience science.  The Association of Christian Schools International curriculum is used to introduce students to the basics of the biological sciences, anatomy and physiology, the physical sciences, and earth and space science. Students are taught the scientific method through hands-on laboratory experiences designed to enhance their inquiry and critical thinking skills.  Field trips are taken throughout the year, and classroom highlights include raising chickens in 3rd grade, as well as traveling to Sky Ranch for three days of outdoor science education in 6th grade.

In grades 7-12, the science curriculum seeks to enable students to discern, reason and defend truth as defined by the word of God.  Students examine science as a process, its limitations, its contributions to daily life, and its relationship with theology, history, and philosophy.  Priority is given to the development of the student’s rational thought, and they are encouraged to develop the habit of self-generated questioning and thinking.  All first year courses in grades 9-12 are taught at a pre-advanced placement level and students have the opportunity to take advanced placement science courses.
